Our group is dropped off the coach
first, about 2 miles before Wooler . |
We head up the valley and cross the
river .. |
Called Coldgate Water . |
A peaceful place . |
Until we arrive . |
The map calls this Happy Valley . |
And we reach the Carey Burn . |
Babbling by . |
We head between . |
The enclosing hills . |
A lamb calls out in great distress . |
Mum
answers the call . |
What you doing
over there? . |
You stick by me in future! . |
The scenery becomes more wild . |
And rocky . |
With a huge scree slope . |
We follow the burn . |
Past a delightful waterfall . |
Si our leader is there to help . |
If needed . |
Marshy ground . |
Is ingeniously crossed . |
Si calls a halt for lunch . |
And we have our meal . |
With a great view back . |
Time to head up . |
And up . |
On to the moor . |
Wooler Common . |
We are not taking the direct route to
Wooler . |
We can see the high Cheviot not far
away . |
The harder group appear
over the horizon (zoomed) . |
Roger leading his merry band
- has Richard photographed us? . |
We head a different way . |
Si says do it in your own time! . |
They are getting on with it . |
Leaving the photographer well behind . |
Lots of pictures present themselves . |
Meanwhile . |
Back on the climb . |
We reach the summit of Humbleton Hill
with views over Wooler . |
And have a well-earned break . |
Time to go . |
The sheep and lambs
have been rounded up . |
For the castration of
the male lambs - ouch! . |
Back we descend into
civilisation . |
Lovely cottage flowers . |
And refreshments after a great walk of 9.2 miles with 1,250 feet of ascent. | ||
