Exmoor Walking Holiday

Saturday 3 October 2009
Friday's walk, Saturday's walk, Sunday's walk, Monday's walk

Holiday Photos
Our second day's walk is from Simonsbath, on the top of Exmoor, with suitable weather for such a location
.
We set off down the valley of the River Barle
.
A misty, moisty morning
.
Picking our way along stoney paths
.
Past mossy banks
.
Speculation about the purpose of this barrier is unresolved
.
We admire the stone walls
.
Eventually we catch sight of Lanacre Bridge, near Withypool, where the path climbs away from the river
.
As we go up it's heads down
.
Until we spot the ponies
.
Very photogenic (the ponies that is)
.
And amazing lighting
.
Meanwhile, back on the walk
.
We find a sheltered spot for lunch
.
Before heading back on a higher route head on into a fierce wind
.
Which turnes Bruno into Pudsey mark II
.
Bruno clears the way
.
And we start to climb back to the top of the moor (about 1200 feet here)
.
We are overtaken by a family group
.
And someone suggests a photo
.
Or two
.
Back at Simonsbath we are glad to dive into the (very steamy) cafe for refreshments
.
Before we head back through the village to our cars
.
