Holiday Photos
.
A beautifully sunny morning gives Di a chance to show us the garden of the hotel
.
Amazing colours
.
Beatrix Potter once lived here
.
No meals on the lawn today
.
Gosh
.
The high winds have almost stripped the magnolias
.
This sun can't last. Leaving our hotel for the last time we make our way to Underbarrow just above Kendal for Mike's morning walk
.
We are briefed about the views we shall not see as
.
Today it is not only wet but also misty
.
We stop at a shelter on Scout Scar with a built in view indicator - Oh that we could use it! It was built in 1912 in honour of George V's coronation
.
These two are certainly in need of direction
.
At the cairn where we will turn off, Mike informs us that following tradition we must each put a stone on the top
.
Before we head downhill
.
Into the valley where we find sheep
.
Looking back up the hill we see the top covered in cloud
.
And the view up the valley is very restricted
.
Our drinks stop and again a cleverly balanced umberella provides shelter
.
This chap doesn't seem very worried by the rain
.
Not great quality but there is a deer there somewhere
.
We climb back up the hill
.
Pausing to look at the church at Helsington
.
Before walking back along the ridge
.
To the car park and our final farewells
.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Richard for the great photos and captions in spite of three days of almost continuous rain. We hope his camera has dried out now!
top As you can see, as well as getting to know the South Cotswolds, we arrange the occasional walking holiday. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
