Snowdonia 2011
Day 3 Ascent of Snowdon

Holiday Photos
Day 1 Betws-y-Coed
Day 2 Beddgelert
Day 3 Snowdon
Day 3 Llyn-y-Parc
Day 4 Swallow Falls
Day 5 Fairy Glen
The Snowdon Ranger Path is our preferred route up Snowdon
.
The still waters of the lake reflecting the surrounding trees
.
And a Welsh Highland Railway train chugging up the valley
.
As we ascend, hilltops shrouded in a misty rain, we pass several small lakes
.
Our path is rocky
.
The valley opening up below us
.
We stop for coffee
.
And continuing soon join the Llanberis Path with its railway giving an easier way to the summit
.
And here we are on the top
.
Are those smiles of relief?
.
Still a bit damp
.
Not a lot of room up here
.
Anne shows how she made it with her Pacerpoles
.
Finally Tim makes it to the top
.
Then starts to climb down
.
Could that be a break in the cloud?
.
Things are starting to clear
.
The views we missed on our way up
.
We can even see the coast
.
Did Hillary and Tensing sit in a cafe doing a crossword when they reached the top of Everest?
.
They obviously needed a bit of help
.
While Tim concentrates on his tea

A photocall outside the cafe
.
And we start our descent, the PYG path snaking away below
.
And looking down the valley we can now see the north coast
.
Soon we get views of Llanberis Lake
.
As we pause to cross the railway to rejoin the Snowdon Ranger Path
.
Waiting for the train to trundle up the valley
.
Scattering sheep
.
Packed with passengers - a good way up Snowdon for those who can't walk it
.
As we continue our descent we look again over to the coast
.
And looking back the train is heading down
.
It's a bit easier walking down
.
Spread out over a stoney track
.
The view again down to Llanberis
.
And to the surrounding hills
.
Reaching a level section we stride out
.
And again the Welsh Highland railway comes into view
.
We pass the farmhouse with the water wheel
.
And back over the railway to the cars
.

As you can see, as well as getting to know the South Cotswolds, we arrange the occasional walking holiday. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
