Brecon Beacons walking holiday

Sat 25 October 2008

.
Friday's walk, Nythfa House and Brecon, Saturday's walk, Sunday's walk, Monday's walk
.
We have a choice of easier, moderate and harder walks, and these photos are of the moderate one

.
Keith is our leader today for a 10 miler to Table Mountain, near Crickhowell
..
The first part of the walk is all uphill
..
Watch your step.
.
We reach the edge of the moor
.
And sheltering behind the wall we have our coffee stop
.
Off we go again and Table Mountain (Crug Hywel) 451 metres comes into view
..
Zooming in we see the harder walking party already on the top and are planning to do 12.5 miles to include Sugar Loaf
.
Nearly up and we can see Crickhowell far below
.
The last push
.
Sugar Loaf, not today!
.
Keith points out the next part of our route, down to Llanbedr for a pub stop and exploring the valley beyond
.
Christine and Brian having fun
.
Down we go carefully
.
More sheltered in the valley
.
The local church porch
.
Is a good place for eating our packed lunch
.
We then visit the pub for a drink where we meet a friend enjoying the heat from the wood stove
.
The afternoon walk is described as "undulating"
.
Eventually it is more down than up
.
We stop for an afternoon snack
.
Before continuing down the valley
.
We spot a heron fishing
.
Up again. Keith our very considerate leader, is dashing back and forth ready to help all that need it
.
Surely Brian isn't thinking of it - is he?
.

Oh well, we'll hug a tree instead - a record breaking seven people are needed!
.
Before continuing back to Crickhowell and the coach
