Yorkshire Dales, Malham
Autumn 2006 Day 2
Day 1, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5
On Monday, the whole party walked to Malham Cove where the sheer limestone walls towered above them. Mike explained that when the ice-sheet melted a waterfall, higher than Niagara, had cascaded over these cliffs. The 414 steps to the limestone pavements above the cove were then ascended. Many small plants were growing in the sheltered grikes or cavities which had been eroded into the rocks. Lunch was taken by Malham Tarn, where a stream disappears into the ground to emerge some distance below the village of Malham.
