Peter led the Autumn Group holiday, staying in Porlock village at Doverhay Place Hotel.
This former AA box at the top of the extremely steep route onto Exmoor brought back memories for some of the walking party that visited Doverhay Place in Porlock last Autumn. Kathy recalled the rows of buckets of water lined up outside the box, ready to fill the steaming radiators of less reliable yet characterful cars of yesteryear that managed to struggle up the hill.
The view that we enjoyed on our way up to Selworthy Beacon was lovely. The climb had been steep and we relaxed in the pleasant late September sun before the final assault to the beacon.
We enjoyed the walk across the top to Selsworthy Beacon, with wide views all around and across the Bristol Channel to Wales.
And we made it on to Selworthy Beacon, owned by the National Trust. There were views from Pembrokeshire to Weston-super-Mare.
Of course, all this climbing made us very hungry, so we felt obliged to sample the cream teas on offer. Someone (not Ann pictured here) was rumoured to have consumed six in the long weekend.

The official photographer found this pack horse bridge too good a chance to miss!
All ready to go again after our coffee stop in Selworthy village.
Our final walk was from Dunster, and Peter found us a made to measure stopping place for lunch.
The spectacular Exmoor coastline, looking west from Selworthy Beacon.

Are we having fun? My word, didn't it blow on the roof of Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon!
