Towards Watendlath

The easier group are on our heels led by Jan
{short description of image}
We see some interesting flowers
{short description of image}
And as we ascend
{short description of image}
We pause to name a few plants
{short description of image}
Including Butterwort (also spotted yesterday by the medium group)
{short description of image}
Looking back the fells cluster around the Borrowdale Valley
{short description of image}
We repass the easier group
{short description of image}
And stride away
{short description of image}
On a stony path
{short description of image}
Which descends
{short description of image}
To Watendlath for a coffee break
{short description of image}
Tadpoles bask in the sunshine
{short description of image}
Roger points to something at the end of the packhorse bridge
{short description of image}
Can you see it yet?
{short description of image}
A commemorative pebble
{short description of image}
A pack of (not horses) but cyclists rides across
{short description of image}
Continuing after our pleasant break we spot a Heath Spotted-Orchid
{short description of image}
And here is where the twp groups divide, we aim towards Keswick and the others are off to Lodore Falls
{short description of image}
Over the beck
{short description of image}
We notice a shuttlecock fern
{short description of image}
And arrive at a famous viewpoint
{short description of image}
With lots of fells to recognise
{short description of image}
We are quite high above Derwentwater
{short description of image}
A great view of Skiddaw with Bassenthwaite Lake beyond
{short description of image}
And a picture for a group calendar?
{short description of image}
Spot the duck competition
{short description of image}
Mike crossing Ashness Bridge
{short description of image}
More views to the coast
{short description of image}
Then we start the climb
{short description of image}
Via Falcon Crag
{short description of image}
The launch looks tiny with Catbells in the background
{short description of image}
Wonder what the joke was?
{short description of image}
We really can see the sea now
{short description of image}
On we go up to Walla Crag, about 1,200 feet high
{short description of image}
With an excellent view of the Keswick area
{short description of image}
A good place to pause
{short description of image}
With Blencasthra in the background
{short description of image}
We begin the long descent back to Keswick and round to Derwent Bank
