Whitby and the North York Moors
Spring 2004 Day 4
Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 5
Excitement indeed today - a 4 mile steam train ride from Grosmont to Goathland, followed by a walk via the spectacular Falling Foss waterfall back to Grosmont.
The locomotive pulls our train into the station, cameras clicking everywhere.
Videos too.
Walkers are all aboard for their ride UP the valley, our leader was not born yesterday!
We disembark at Goathland ...
... and Brian steps it out with Olivia ...
We consolidate near Goathland Church.
Off we go across the moorland.
A typical scene. We leave the moor and descend into...
... a rocky river gorge, where it is a challenge for everyone to find a safe route.
You tak the high road, and I'll tak the low road ...
A delightful spot for a picnic lunch.
We reach our target, Falling Foss waterfall, about 60 feet in height.
Too big for one photo.
Steady now!
The going gets easier as we make our way down the valley ...
... following the course of an abandoned railway route, all the way back to Grosmont ...
... where we obtain an excellent view of the station, and the pollution emitting from the locomotives!
