Buxton and the Peak District
Autumn 2003 Day 2

The second day found us travelling to Hope, where we climbed up Lose Hill.
.
Here we rest after climbing a few hundred feet up from the village towards the ridge.
.
The lovely weather had brought out the masses, and it must have been as busy as on a summer's day.
.
A rare shot of the photographer and his wife caught on camera on the ridge path.
.
Ahead we see the former main road now abandoned die to subsidence below Mam Tor, the shivering mountain. We were heading along the ridge for the summit.
.
First we had our lunch break, pestered by the papparazzi (Bruno this time).
.
Over the other side of the ridge the railway thundered between Scotland and London. We could see the village of Edale, where the Pennine Way begins, and the great mass of the Dark Peak with Kinder Scout nearby.
.
Wrapping up warmly we climbed up Mam Tor.
.
We decended via Winnats Pass, the original road route, which has now been improved after the other road was abandoned.
.
We arrived in Castleton, looking in cave entrances on the way, before having cream teas there and admiring the blue stone mined there. Afterwards it was a pleasant river side walk back to Hope.
