Frampton-on-Severn - October 2003
The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Frampton-on-Severn was the scene for this walk led by Peter.
We crossed on one of the many bridges over this wide ship canal, built for Gloucester-bound shipping to avoid the treacherous tides of the Severn.
Feeding time.
Waiting to cross the footbridge.
Posing on the bridge. The junction is between the ship canal and the much narrower Stroudwater Navigation, used at one time to carry coal from the Forest of Dean to the Stroud area. Plans are in hand for its restoration.
Leaving a drove road, made when the land was enclosed to enable stock to be moved in the area.
Frampton Lake.
Crossing in front of Frampton Court. Note the dry ground in this exceptionally dry summer / autumn.
Back across the village green.
We were fascinated to spot a heron (centre) - yes it was alive but froze for most of the time we watched it.
