In 1995 we published "12 Favourite Walks in the South of Gloucestershire". This was a great success, selling out in 1999. . In 2006 we revised and expanded the original walks to 18, and published them as Favourite South Cotswold Walks Book One |

printer friendly page - we suggest you print them off and take with you Walk 1 - May 2010 Amended wording, paragraph C, line 6 - "At hedge turn R over stile in horse jump", note there is now no stile step. The path is diagonally up across field to R of three nearby large trees, then straight up to the middle of the brow. Over brow then head to a kissing gate (this replaces second "stile in horse jump") to the right of drinking trough. "Continue in same direction (waymarked) ..." NB If the field is cropped and impassable, return to the first mentioned horse jump. Head uphill along L field boundary to the L of the three nearby trees. Arriving at a kissing gate, do NOT go through L, but go R along the boundary of the same field to pass the drinking trough mentioned above and go through kissing gate on L. "Continue in same direction (waymarked) ..." Walks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 No updates needed Walk 8 Name Change - Meeting point in large lay by near The King and Castle pub. This has changed its name to The Pavillion. Walks 9, 10, 11 No updates needed Walk 12 parking news - April 2010 - Dursley - The first choice for parking, May Lane CP (3 hour limit), is fine. If you need to park for longer, the Dursley Long Stay Car Park is now down Long Street (near the Market Hall). A long-stay car park with around 60 spaces is behind the Gazette office, in Long Street, and is accessible by a road through Lister Petter car park - although pedestrians will be able to cut through the forecourt of the Gazette offices to reach Long Street. It is fully signed in the town centre to guide motorists. Walk 13 Horsley pub no longer - April 2010 - Please note The Bell and Castle pub in Horsley has now closed down. May 2010 - Page 29 Line 3 - Concrete footpath marker has been replaced with a footpath sign. Paragraph E - The house called Cleeves has changed its name. Just aim for next path off lane on the left. The next footpath is reported to have an electric fence near to it. Walk 14 possible crop obstruction - April 2008 - Kingscote Wood to Horsley - Paragraph C On emerging from Kingscote Wood and crossing diagonally to drive, the next path is in same direction, but is often cropped with no clear path. If impossible divert half left round the edge and turn right to go along to stile. Also down in the bottom the footbridge is no longer there, but there is a large stone to help you cross. Protect your legs - June 2010 - In spite of volunteer efforts, some field edge paths near Kingscote can be a bit "thistly" and "nettley" in the height of summer, so long trousers are recommended. Walks 15, 16, No updates needed Walk 17 possible crop obstruction - April 2008 - Little Avon River to Charfield - After crossing plank footbridge (page 37 line 8) at certain times of year you may be confronted with a crop of head-high maize. This field has never been cropped before and the problem has now been reported to the County. Follow left hand boundary which zig-zags left/right and then turn right down well cleared path to regain route near road. Walk 18 Leighterton and Westonbirt - 5 June 2010 - Derek reports that the house at the start is now called Ivy House, not The Cuillin, and the Royal Oak is currently closed completely for re-furbishment for the foreseeable future. =========================================================== If you come across a problem whilst you are out walking using our books, we would be very grateful if you could contact us with the details.
