Walk 6
Leonard Stanley and Coaley Peak
This 5.5 mile walk starts in Leonard Stanley, a charming village dating back to Saxon times, with many historic buildings. The parish church of St Swithun was built in 1129 as a monastery church, part of the Priory of St. Leonard. It has a very solid tower and a richly decorated Norman doorway. The former tythe barn is still in use next door in the farm.

The climb to Coaley Peak is well worth it, as the views on a clear day are stupendous, over the Severn Vale to the Forest of Dean and if you are lucky the Welsh Mountains. Bring a picnic and feast on the scenery, or do the 15 minute extension to reach the Rose and Crown at Nympsfield for a pub lunch.

The return route over fields has wide views over the vale and up to the hills.
