A list of the photos of the Stroudwater Canal. The photos start at Upper Framilode on the River Severn (as did the canal) and run in sequence to Wallbridge in Stroud.

The Severn Bore
The huge tidal wave of water that travels up the River Severn
past Framilode.

Slimbridge WWT
Just around the corner, and in view from the southern part of the walk is the famous reserve established by Sir Peter Scott.

Walk 1
Upper Framilode, Saul and Barrow Hill
This is an easy 5.5 mile walk, mainly level, with one small hill, and explores the neck of the Arlingham Peninsula, where the River Severn loops round for nine miles to progress just over one.

There are good views to the Forest of Dean and the meanders of the Severn, and distant Cotswold vistas. You could see and perhaps meet some rare breeds en route.

Framilode church by the river is worth a visit, with its unusual painted ceiling. The church is decorated with many nautical motifs, and in the graveyard more than one headstone records a drowning. Framilode expanded in 1779 when the Stroudwater Canal opened and formed part of the Thames and Severn Canal. Now Framilode is a tranquil spot.
