Our last walk starts by the Green Well in Alstonefield, where villagers used to collect their water
Past the Post office and former village shop
Who was a Mercer and Grocer, Dealer in Coffee, Tea, Tobacco & Snuff
We tour the village | |
And Alan, our leader, strides towards the church
Where there is much to see
These boots were made for walking, now flower pots!
We descend into Mill Dale
Children playing Pooh Sticks on the packhorse bridge
After a coffee or tea we pose for a Group Photo
And set off to explore the Dales
Passing an old mill by the stream
The river was fished by Isaac Walton
It is running high today
Lovely sun shines on the gorse
The Dove in full spate | |
Quite muddy on the banks
We meet up with the Medium Group who started at Hartington. They cross but we continue on the same side
Sally (in red) taking a few photos too.
Up the valley we go | |
A photo opportunity for Mike and Heather
Our delightful lunch stop
An Irish walking stick with John, it's owner
Linda and Margaret smile for the camera
Alan and the rocky outcrops
A smart waymark | |
Particularly wet around here
A single beam bridge with a fence to climb at the end. Water roaring by!
Good for golden saxifrage (thank you Angela for the ID)
Up we go, with the sky looking ominous
We descend into Hartington, our destination
A 1907 waymark, predating the Ramblers Association by 28 years! We buy some cheese and have a cup of tea to avoid the shower. |
