A group photo before we start in Patterdale*
Leaving Patterdale we head uphill
Views back down the valley
As we continue uphill | |
Looking down to Brothers Water one way
And back to Ullswater | |
A water stop gives Olivia chance to show off her new jacket
As we continue uphill | |
Nearing the top of Place Fell
Happy scramblers* | |
Where the trig point gives some chance to show off
Along the plateau we pass a small tarn
Continuing along rolling upland, Ullswater below
Denys welcomes us to his bijou lakeland cottage with tea and cake
And we spot butterwort, an unusual flower
We now head down the valley of Scalehow
Ullswater getting closer
Following the busy stream
As it hurtles downhill | |
Now nearing the lakeside path
Pausing for Jan to check that he has got the right lake
Seems ok | |
A bit like a coastal path - up and down - but the sun is out on the other side
And a paddle steamer goes steaming by
Our destination is across the other side
Another water stop - could we catch a boat again?
Would that one stop for us? No, we will have to walk
We pass a double-decker sheep transporter loading sheep to go to higher pastures*
At least there is a bar waiting for us in Glenridding
And as if we haven't done enough for the day, the South Cots manage to win the HF quiz competition* |
