The car park at Ewepen Barn on the Sherborne Estate. Something has caught their attention
And theirs
Yes it's Andrew our leader with his pre walk performance
Well we should be in for a treat today
There is something about dead trees
Nice bit of carving - note the dog
Peter's found something to photograph
And there it is
We make our way down through the woods
Our first sighting of snowdrops plus a few aconites
Time for a rest. The excitement getting to us
The old manor house with its church
Passing through a small hamlet of country houses
We head down a tarmac road
Then down fields
Into the valley
A pause for coffee - Enid grabs the only seat
Except for seats which some carry with them
Crossing a stile
To walk along the river Dikler
Making use of an old stone bridge
And now walking along the other side
With fine views of a long line of poplar trees
As we make our way to Great Rissington
Trudging uphill
Till we spot not only snowdrops but also daffodils among the trees
We follow a path through Great Rissington churchyard
Continuing through the village
With its picturesque cottages
Into rolling countryside
Through some more woods
Past the remains of an old mill
And back into the Sherborne Estate
Where lunch is taken in the comfort of a five bar gate
Well there wasn't room for everybody
A herd of deer cross in front of us
Peter's photo
Peter manages to zoom in even closer. Click here for more pictures
Then we cross a bridge
And head into Sherborne village
With more old cottages
And strange things in the gardens
A strange carving in the woods
And an ice house
A final stop
Before we return to the car park
And a chance to look round the old barn
With its stained glass window.

As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us,see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
