.
We set off from Oldbury-on-Severn
.
Ray leads us towards the river
.
We climb the bank
.
To take in the view of both Severn Bridges
.
And the towers of the Wye Bridge near Chepstow
.
Behind us is the nuclear power station
.
We continue to Whale Wharf
.
Where Ray tells us a fishy story
.
The name lives on
.
Heading inland Ray tries to organise another group
. e Woods
We look on in wonder
.
So do they
.
We manage to pass each other without incident and continue to Littleton - not stopping today
.
We walk through the village
.
Another group is acting more sensibly on this warm day
.
A chance to natter
.
And debate
.
We approach the church at Oldbury
.
Built on a small hill, and quite a landmark
.
The path takes us through two fields of this unidentified crop - ideas any one?
.
Ray invites us to climb the mound
.
And settle down for the rather gruesome Nun's story
.
We are all ears
.
We then have a look inside St Arilda's church
.
Also pinned on the noticeboard is an interesting 5 page printout from the internet - you can see it here
.
In 2006 a new carving of St Arilda was made and installed over the doorway
.
With one last glance over the Severn we retrace our steps
.
And a short walk from the church brings us back to the Anchor Inn and the cars.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
