Grey day - grey looks
.
Until Mike points to the Tyndale Monument peering over the top of the hill at us
.
And we head off out of North Nibley
..
Well into our stride now
.
Taking to the fields
.
Whose inhabitants don't seem too perturbed
.
As we head past Waterley Farm
.
Towards Waterley Bottom
.
Then it's up the valley soon taking to a footpath following the road
.
Crossing another field
.
Needed! A kind rambler to move the top rail so that I can reach the hay.
.
We continue uphill
.
The path getting steeper
.
Till we reach the top - now thats a name to conjure with
.
We reach the other side of the hill and look down into the valley and the hamlet of Coombe
.
Encountering more signs of spring
.
Photo taken seconds before I turned and ran
.
Coffee break taken on the side of the hill
.
Looking over Wotton
.
We continue round the top of the hill
.
Mike indicates on the map where we are
.
As we follow the path through the woods
.
Before stopping for Mike to give us the lowdown on William Tyndale
.
A stop to admire the view at a clump of trees
.
Originally planted in 1815 to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo
.
As we follow the Cotswold Way we come to the site of an old hill fort
.
Eventually leaving the woods
.
And making along the side of the hill to the Tyndale Monument
.
Which to our surprise is open - fortunately we had excuses ready for not climbing to the top
.
We take the easy route downhill
.
To the road
.
Back to the Black Horse and lunch for some
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
