Joe prepares us for our day's walk
.
But nobody is prepared for this
.
Yes, it's the Baton walk to mark the Ramblers' 75th Anniversary
..
After a brisk start Joe pauses to give us chance to catch our breath
.
Before we continue our walk to the Severn
.
Where the river provides a backdrop for our first photo call
.
Smile please
.
Looking across the river
.
We cross one of the drainage streams
.
Where Joe stops to tell us abour their origin - followed by that man again!
.
Continuing along the banks of the river
.
At least it's high tide
.
Another familiar sight
.
As you can see the printing is upside down on the back of the Baton!
.
We head up the road from the power station - potholes evidence of the recent winter weather
..
Past the old sea mill
.
Stopping for lunch on the green at Ham
.
Before heading up to the Deer Park
.
With its old trees
.
Walking briskly along the top
.
Then heading downhill
.
And looking back across the fields, in the distance, the Baton is still following us
.
As we reach the spooky house on the top of the hill
.
Another photo stop
.
As we look at the view with the old Severn Bridge in the distance
.
And a second group photo
.
We are not alone in the countryside
.
This stile proves difficult
.
Our final stretch is somewhat waterlogged
.
And we arrive back, the Baton still flying proudly if slightly deflated
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
