.
Differant pictures on each side of the pub sign. One the literal interpretation.
.
The other the story on which it was based
.
Either way we start from the Cat and Custard Pot
..
In Shipton Moyne where Mike is waiting to lead us oe'r hill and dale
.
Well out past the church
.
And over the fields
.
Passing the first of a number of rather splendid mansions
.
A horses' eye view of Ramblers
.
And the horses doing the viewing
.
A feature of the Estcourt Estate where there is much evidence of horse breeding
.
We head down to the river
.
Heather multi-tasking, back-marking and chatting
.
Crossing the river
.
We reach Shipton Mill
.
An old mill property
..
Which Mike explained is where they purchased their delicious Shipton Mill organic flour
.
Continuing across a field
.
We reach Long Newnton
.
A bar at the back of this stile makes it rather difficult to get over
.
But we all negotiate it safely
.
And eventually reach Long Newnton Church
.
Where coffee is taken with cake and mince pies
.
Supplied by Mike, Heather and John
.
We follow a broad grassy track
.
Pausing to cross a road - is that the Hunchback of Notre Dame?
.
Through the mist we catch sight of Tetbury Church
.
As we follow the road to the outskirts of town
.
Before turning off onto a path
.
Which takes us down to the river again
.
Over a bridge
.
And back into
.
The Estcourt estate
.
{short description of image}
Estate signpost so that the staff don't get lost
.
But Mike knows where he is going
.
As we follow the path between two large houses
.
And continue across the Estate
.
Over a variety of stiles
.
Rain starting to fall
.
Another strange stile
.
Now what does a young foal do when confronted by a herd of scary Ramblers?
.
He hides behind his mother
.
Then runs for it
.
Meanwhile we take the final steps back to Shipton Moyne and a pub lunch for many of us
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
