.
A few moments of quiet contemplation before Bernard leads us out of the village hall car park
.
And out through Frampton Mansell
.
Past the church
..
Into the valley
.
Pausing at the bottom
.
Where we join the canal
.
Whoops - nearly took the wrong path!
.
I am assured they are spindleberries
.
Streams are running high with all the rain
.
And here it's more water than meadows!
.
We continue along the canal
.
Past the steep sided locks
.
To the Daneway
.
Where Bernard talks about the canal
.
Before we return to the towpath
.
What's this then? Another Banksie in the making?
.
No, just Bernard marking a rather dangerous low hanging branch
.
We eventually reach the Daneway Portal
.
And head up the hill
.
To Sapperton
.
Where we stop in the churchyard for coffee
.
Now everytime I hit someone over the head with my shillelagh I hammer a nail in it! : > )
.
Our route follows roughly the underground canal tunnel
.
To Hailey Wood
.
Where we pass the old tunnel shafts
.
And Patrick stops to explain their construction and use
.
More woodland tracks
.
Take us under the railway
.
To a waterlogged track which leads to the Tunnel House
.
We just finish lunch to do a bit of train spotting - Pacific A4 class Bittern
.
Before following the path
.
Through the woods
.
More difficult walking
.
But eventually coming out into the fields and past Cranhill Barn
.
Over more fields
.
And back across the A419 to Frampton Mansell
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
