.
It was the best of days, the worst of days - company good, weather foul, as Olivia greeted us at Framilode
.
And we set off along the canal
.
Into Saul village
..
Pausing to look at the quaint sculptures of two sailor boys who lost their lives at sea
.
And the captain of their ship
.
Olivia fills us in on the story
.
We soon leave the high street
.
And head off across the fields
.
Followed by a short road walk
.
Leaving the road with a choice of stiles - not everyone goes for the easy option
.
Eventually reaching the Severn
.
Which looks pretty choppy
.
Now who have we got under these hoods?
.
Fretherne church provides a brief respite from the weather
.
With its unusual spire
.
A pause at the bottom of the only hill in the area before we start to climb
.
Passing a rather tempting seat
.
Forced to go round a field of decaying corn
.
Then a chance to get our boots really muddy
.
Watched with disdain from afar
.
We look down to the horseshoe bend
.
From the shelter of a tree
.
And then heading downhill encounter another tree
.
Which requires further investigation
.
We run the gauntlet of some inquisitive horses
.
And survive
.
Somebody forgot to pick their apples this year
.
We head back to the banks of the Severn
.
Following the river to our starting point
.
Thank you Richard for the photos and captions
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
