| It was the best of days, the worst of
days - company good, weather foul, as Olivia greeted us at Framilode
. |
| And we set off along the canal . |
| Into Saul village .. |
| Pausing to look at the quaint
sculptures of two sailor boys who lost their lives at sea . |
| And the captain of their
ship . |
| Olivia fills us in on the story . |
| We soon leave the high street . |
| And head off across the fields . |
| Followed by a short road walk . |
| Leaving the road with a choice of
stiles - not everyone goes for the easy option . |
| Eventually reaching the Severn . |
| Which looks pretty choppy . |
| Now who have we got under these hoods? . |
| Fretherne church provides a brief
respite from the weather . |
| With its unusual spire . |
| A pause at the bottom of
the only hill in the area before we start to climb . |
| Passing a rather tempting seat . |
| Forced to go round a field of decaying
corn . |
| Then a chance to get our boots really
muddy . |
| Watched with disdain from afar . |
| We look down to the horseshoe bend . |
| From the shelter of a tree . |
| And then heading downhill
encounter another tree . |
| Which requires further investigation . |
| We run the gauntlet of some
inquisitive horses . |
| And survive . |
| Somebody forgot to pick their apples
this year . |
| We head back to the banks of the
Severn . |
| Following the river to our starting
point . |
| Thank you Richard for the photos and captions |
| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers. |
