So that's what a back of a bus looks like! We arrive in Tarlton to start our walk
.
And assemble in front of the bus shelter for Mike to give his pre-ramble preamble
.
We head off across field in sunshine
.
And in shadow
.
Silver birches catching the sun as we make our way through Hailey Wood
.
A stop for Mike to explain that later on if all goes to plan we should catch sight of a steam train
.
And the stop is extended so that he can adjust our timing to the train timetable
.
We continue on our way
.
Not a cloud in the sky - yet
.
Under the railway
.
And round a field of winter crops
.
Then into a thicket
.
To a well defined path
.
That takes us towards
.
Sapperton with its famous pub
.
And pretty cottages
.
A pause for a group photo of those who have completed all eleven stages of the Wysis Way Walk as we pick up where we left off
.
They'll be ok if the house catches fire
.
Leaving Sapperton
.
After some road walking we head back towards Hailey Wood
.
Where we take a temporary detour to watch
.
The steam train - Tornado
.
The newest steam locomotive in the world, costing £4m (Mike's distant shot)
.
A close up from Richard
.
And a last shot of the carriages from Mike
.
Thanks to Patrick for his movie (This needs good broadband at a less busy time - don't forget to turn your sound UP!)
.
We rejoin the Wysis Way
.
Continuing through the woods
.
On a carpet of autumn leaves
.
To the Tunnel House for lunch - oh dear
.
We are joined by a party of 300 bikers
.
Who have even brought their own
.
Hearse
.
But lunch proves most enjoyable
.
Afterwards we pause to examine some of the machines
.
And our photographer has his photo taken
.
Before we return to our walk along the Canal
.
Some information on the canal from Mike
.
Before we head along Kings Reach
.
And under Tarlton Road Bridge
.
To the old round house
.
Where Bernard explains its history
.
Then it's on to the famous skewed railway bridge
.
Before heading across the fields - Bernard feels a spot of rain
.
Past the start of another long distance path
.
And the stone marking one of the sources of the River Thames
.
On across the water meadows
.
Over a stile
.
{short description of image}
Another source of the Thames - also dried up
.
On our last lap
.
To journey's end at Kemble
.
For so many photos and captions over the eleven instalments since March 2008 grateful thanks to Richard
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
