.
It was one of those days when it rained
.
And rained
.
Water gathered in swollen ponds
..
Cows were too wet to heed a party of Ramblers
.
This year's crop of sloes remained firmly attached to their trees
.
It's alright said Kathy, we will stay in the valley
.
Where it got muddier and muddier
.
Plenty of winter fuel stored up here
.
Coffee and the rain has eased up a bit
.
At least it doesn't impair the views over to Dursley
.
But not much call for holiday cottages today
.
We nervously eye the top of the hill
.
We can go up the Bury if the rain eases, says Kathy
.
And so up we go
.
Looking back across the valley
.
Struggling manfully (and womanfully) on
.
Autumn colours unaffected by the rain
.
As we enter the woods
.
Sunlight creeping through the trees
.
Giving them a spectral appearance
.
Till we reach the top
.
Once an ancient fortress we are told
.
A last look over Downham Hill to watch another wave of rain approach
.
A quick snap of a gate down in the woods -the last one before the rain hits us
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
