Having welcomed 46 people at Painswick Walkers Car park for this joint event with Stroud Rambling Club, Richard takes 22 off on a day walk, while Mike and Heather lead 24 people on a 6 mile half day walk. Here we pass Gyde House
.
Through narrow streets
.
Passing Painswick House (of Rococo gardens fame)
.
Down a virtually unused footpath - until Mike and Heather's walkover a few weeks ago - now it has been used a little (by dog walkers?) - perhaps it will become well used soon? (Try it yourself from GR SO 861102 to SO 860102)
.
At the bottom is an excellent footbridge and gate complete with waymark
.
Climbing up the next field the trail through the long grass is in the background
.
A short stiff climb up to Highfold Farm
.
Some people love cats, others don't even see them
.
On the Cotswold Way now
.
Heading up towards the Edgemoor Inn
.
Drama as we try to move a broken branch out of the way
.
The Edgemoor Inn wall proves a good spot for a quick stop - no, the pub isn't open yet!
.
We continue up across Rudge Hill, otherwise known as Edge Common
.
This was used for tank training in the war
.
Down the other side the Severn Vale hoves into view
.
May Hill on the skyline
.
And of course the Malverns
.
Oh - an obstacle greets us here
.
If you feel strongly that this type of hazard should be removed and would be willing to send in a complaint (as Mike has already done) ....
.
Please email prow@gloucestershire.gov.uk quoting the junction of paths EHE 23, 22 and 21 at Edge, Grid Reference SO 843095
.
We emerge to gain more views
.
Glorious sunshine
.
We climb back up to cross the main road
.
And down the other side on Huddinknoll Hill
.
And along a path heading north new to everyone
.
Downhill to the inevitable muddy corner
.
Through the stingers and up the path following the stream bed
.
Continuing uphill we pass this well sheltered house
.
We reach the top, and it's downhill all the way back to the cars with smiles on our faces
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
