We all arrive early at Bulls Cross having been forewarned that the Cotswold Wardens will also be there
.
And we head off down the hill
.
Encountering some water at the bottom in spite of the recent dry spell
.
** Immediately we climb up again
.
We pass the cottage used by the BBC in the 1970's production of Cider with Rosie
.
And another relic of a bygone age
.
Continuing along the Wysis Way
.
Into woods
.
Stopping to admire the flowers
.
As we climb towards Bisley, with our old friend May Hill behind us in the distance
.
Our progress startles a deer and it sets off energetically through a field of barley
.
As we pass within sight of Lypiatt Park
.
In Bisley foliage over a house name turns it into something more meaningful
.
And leaving the Wysis Way we head towards Througham
.
** Another steep down and up
.
A field of nettles makes some people regret that they are wearing shorts
.
We continue across fields
.
Passing a rambler studying his map under a tree
.
** Through sturdy wheat
.
And pausing for a break
.
Before turning down the path into Througham
.
Taking in the views across to Sudgrove
.
As we enter the village pausing to examine the beautiful houses
.
Ranging from Througham Court
.
To small cottages
.
** Leaving the hamlet we stop for lunch in a field
.
Where a stone wall provides a handy backrest for Bernard
.
The afternoon starts with a somewhat dodgy stile
.
And then thick undergrowth
.
Followed by more stiles and thicker undergrowth
.
Until eventually we reach "The End" - not really, just a house in The Camp
.
Where we cross a busy road
.
Before taking the track
.
** Down to the Dillay Valley
.
Now what is Heather laughing at?
.
Could be she knows that the path now climbs almost vertically uphill
.
** Continuing up through woods
.
** With several pauses
.
Then down the other side
.
Pausing at a pond for some quiet contemplation
.
Then the final sprint uphill
.
To the cars
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
