The Car Park of the Lammastide Inn. Lammastide? Starts on 1st August - harvest period
.
Leaving Brookend we walk through a well kept allotment
.
And someone has been busy cutting and laying
.
Patrick demonstrates an elegant stile crossing style
.
As we head resolutely across fields
.
On a somewhat cloudy day
.
But at least it's still dry
.
We look down over the Severn
.
As we walk towards Purton
.
Passing the church
.
And stop for coffee by the side of the canal
.
With the old lock keeper's cottage
.
As we leave Purton we spot this gnome cottage
.
As well as this famous old pub
.
We take to the banks of the Severn
.
Which leads us to the monument for the "boats graveyard"
.
With its old hulks of concrete
.
And wood
.
We soon reach the remains of the Severn railway bridge
.
Here's one I took earlier
.
Oh no you didn't (says Mike). It's part of the interpretation board put up at the site. Here's your chance to read it out of the wind
.
Then we look across to Sharpness Docks
.
Obviously a Garfield fan!
.
Another view back up the river
.
Boats moored up waiting for the better weather
.
The home of SARA
.
And the memorial to TS Vindicatrix
.
Our path takes us across the beginning of the Sharpness Canal where it enters the docks
.
Of which we have one last glimpse before heading back
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our Led Walks Programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the Ramblers.
