Kingswood circular

Wed 18 February 2009

.
.
John greets us in the centre of his home town Kingswood
.
.
And our first stop is the early 16th Century Abbey gatehouse
.
.
Followed by a not quite so early water tower
.
.
Attached to this old building with the famous local name of Tubbs on it (see last week's Stinchcombe walk)
.
.
We head off across the fields
.
.
Encountering a few stiles
.
.
And the occasional road which we cross under John's watchful eye
.
.
Meanwhile the field becomes more strung out as some ramblers slow down for a chat
.
.
He may be asking his workforce at Renishaws to work a day for nothing but he still has a nice house
.
.
They seem to be enjoying themselves
.
.
We set off down the field
.
.
To a bridge over the Little Avon River
.
.
Where we take coffee
.
.
There follows a very muddy gateway
.
.
Wendy finds time for a quick chat with these two
.
.
Before we take the path over the fields to Renishaws
.
.
John stops to tell us about the company
.
.
And why they need to decorate the field with wooden sheep
.
.
When there are real ones just down the road
.
.
We find an intriguing sign by the side of the path
.
.
You've guessed it - its the sewage works - anyone want to try a sample?
.
.
Our route takes us through a farm
.
.
Then back across the fields - Kingswood in the distance
.
.
We head down the main street
.
.

Returning to our starting point - what's all that about then?
.
.
.
Photos and captions thanks once again to Richard

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
