Bisley left over Christmas Cake walk

Sat 10 January 2009

.
It's foggy and frosty. We are meeting at Windy Ridge in Bisley. We have every reason to look cold
.
.
Setting off across the frozen fields
.
.
Soon getting into our stride
.
.
As we climb out of Battlescombe
.
.
And as usual finding this stretch of path impassable, taking to the adjoining field
.
.
Coffee. Behind that barn door is a fire and a table laden with food & drinks waiting for a group of shooters to return
.
.
At least we have got flasks of coffee and left over Christmas cake supplied by Di
.
.
We make our way to Edgeworth passing through the churchyard
.
.
And out through the lychgate
.
.
Walking along the valley
.
.
We head towards Valley Farm
.
.
The trees still frosted
.
.
The streams frozen
.
.
We stop to look
.
.
A steep climb with a stile at the top
.
.
Well not quite the top
.
.
The climb continues
.
.
More frost covers the trees
.
.
We are on the top now
.
.
And things look very white
.
.
Ice covers the road as we drop down into Sudgrove
.
.
Where we stop for lunch. Julie's daughter seen here distributing chocolate liquers
.
.
Al-Qaeda? No Al Marks, a stalwart of the Ramblers
.
.
We carefully pick our way down the hill from Sudgrove
.
.

And march back up the other side
.
.
Following a path across the fields in single file
.
.
Seems to be a bit of a gap developing here
.
.
Not very old. Looking for someone to play with
.
.
But we carry on into yet another valley
.
.
Well I told them at the beginning that the route was slightly undulating
.
.
Finding another stream to cross at the bottom
.
.
The final climb with a herd of horses to greet us at the top
.
.
And as we return - did I mention that it was very frosty?
.
.
.
Shiver me timbers - photos and captions thanks again to Richard
.
.
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
