southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Jacky's November Walk Sat 15 November 2008 Another good turn out for Jacky's very hilly walk . |
| Leaving
the lay-by at the Pavillion we head off under the road and railway . . |
| Before
taking the canal path .. . |
| Then
up a very narrow path towards Hyde . . |
| We
look down into the valley . . |
| As
we continue climbing . . |
| A
sight which encourages our leader, Jacky, to take a photo .. . |
| A
bit more climbing and we head along . . |
| Besbury
Common . . |
| Stopping
in Burleigh to talk and for quiet contemplation while everybody catches
up . . |
| Then
it's out onto Minchinhampton Common . . |
| Heading
towards the Bear . . |
| Followed
by an ice cream stop - a print of this picture has been passed to Andy . . |
| Our
route then takes us downhill . . |
| Over
the railway . . |
| To
the canal . . |
| Where
lunch is taken . . |
| Under
the watchful eye of a rather large pike . . |
| We
cross the river Frome . . |
| Before
climbing the other side of the valley, across swollen streams . . |
| And
walking along the top of the hill to Lypiatt . . |
| And
Nether Lypiatt Manor or the Haunted House as it is known locally . . |
| We
walk down into Toadsmoor . . |
| Skirting
the side of the valley . . |
| Past
the lower lake . . |
| Taking
a rest in Bussage after climbing the very steep hill . . |
| To
finish the walk we go through Brownshill and down Station Banks . . |
| Back
to our starting point . . |
| . | |||
| Photos
and captions thanks to Richard

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. | |||
