Glevum Way No 3

Sat 8 November 2008

.
The final instalment of the Glevum Way is 11 miles, and we first visit ...
.
.
Otherwise known as Churchdown Hill
..
.
Bernard is setting a brisk pace
.
.
We reach the church at the top, St Bartholomews
.
.
Good views towards Cheltenham with the Eagle Star building visible
.
.
Time for a break
..
.
Before we descend
.
.
Very carefully to avoid a slither.

.
An intriguing view south between the Cotswolds on the left and Robinswood Hill on the right to distant Stinchcombe Hill
.
.
Down Tinkers Hill towards Staverton airfield, the Lower Malverns in the distance
.
.
Wonderfully organised allotments
.
.
With the Police on guard, or are they on the lookout for us?
.
.
We escape to a golf course
.
.
Following a brook on the right and an interesting selection of trees
.
.
Bernard confirms we are on the correct route
.
.
After another hour or two of very level walking we cross the A38 Tewkesbury Road at Longford
.
.
And follow the path by the Severn past the Jolly Waterman - sadly now private
.
.
The Cathedral
.
.
Did you know there was a park near the river?
.
.
Under the A40 near Westgate Street
.
.
And on to an island
.
.
The other side of the river to the city
.
.
No comment (I daren't) except to say thank you Bernard for a fascinating walk - and we got back in the light!
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
