Cowcombe Hill and Chalford Valley

Sat 18 October 2008

.
Allen in pensive mood as we head down into Cowcombe Woods
.
.
Now looking across the valley to the Bourne
..
.
Our route takes us along through Burley and Bownham Park - put that cow down Sue
.
.
Before coffee/early lunch is taken at Winstones
.
.
There follows a long descent into the valley
.
.
Crossing the railway and Jubilee Bridge
..
.
Joint leader Di - well I think she scrubs up quite nicely!
.
.
We start to walk back along the other side of the valley - a natty style in hats there Mike!
.
.
A tricky stream to cross
.
.
A fine view over Doverow to the Severn
.
.
The end of a break at the Heavens as one older member struggles to his feet
.
.
Allen squeezes through a narrow gap - hope they all manage it!
.
.
We walk along the top of the hill
.
.
Dropping down to St Mary's and over the railway
.
.
Before taking to the canal bank
.
.
The round house appearing through the trees as we head towards Chalford
.
.
We all file into a - flower shop?
.
.
It's ok they also sell teas - and cakes
.
.
Refreshed we continue along the canal
.
.
To Valley Corner
.
.
Then up the hill
.
.
To Westley Farm - not sure what Sue is doing - Singing? Catching flies?
.
.
And with a last look over the valley
.
.
We head back to the cars, Tim bringing up the rear
.
.

.
Photos and captions thanks to Richard, who also co-leads the walk..
.
.
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
