Luckington and the source of the Avon

Sat 20 September 2008

.
John looks round for customers as we gather outside the Old Royal Ship at Luckington
.
.
The church here has a space to park the vicar!
..
.
It was also used to film Pride and Prejudice
.
.
We head out of the village on a raised path to get round the ford
.
.
As we cross fields John turns "backerds" to ensure no one is misbehaving
.
.
A pause for meditation and chin scratching
..
.
As we look across to Sherston
.
.
Ostriches? Rheas? Answers on the message board please
.
.
We follow the stream out of Sherston
.
.
Then climb the hill
.
.
Looking up the valley
.
.
And past a well manacured lawn with Ha Ha
.
.
A short road walk
.
.
Before John has to lift an electric wire for us to pass safely. No it wasn't on
.
.
We continue past the source of the Avon
.
.
Now how do I get back to my mates without getting wet
.
.
This farmer has got his crops in alright as we walk across a stubble field
.
.
Then comes the water jump
.
.
Or in some cases a slightly extended stride
.
.
Now the village of Sopwith
.
.
And a fine display of flowers at the entrance to this house
.
.
We trudge across the fields
.
.
Mike pausing to check the route
.
.
Then one last field back to Luckington and lunch
.
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
