Selsley Common and Woodchester Park

Sat 13 September 2008

.
With a turn out of 34 Tim's leadership skills must include crowd control
.
.
From the car park on Selsley Common we head off towards Bown Hill
..
.
* Pausing at the top of the hill
.
.
For a chat or to take in the view
.
.
Before heading down into the valley with views across to Nailsworth
.
.
A pause while everybody negotiates a stile
..
.
Reaching the bottom of the valley we turn up into Woodchester Park past the first lake
.
.
Spotting another lake through the trees
.
.
Walking along a wooded path
.
.
To the mansion where we stop for coffee
.
.
We continue uphill in the morning sunlight
.
.
Eventually reaching the park gates
.
.
Where this sign gives us thoughts of lunch
.
.
Fully refreshed we congregate outside the pub ready for the afternoon walk
.
.
Heading across the fields
.
.
Under the watchful eye of Tim, ensuring that everybody has left the pub
.
.
To Coaley Peak
.
.
With views back to Cam Long Down and Downham Hill
.
.
We stop to look at
.
.
Nympsfield Long Barrow
.
.
Before continuing along the Cotswold Way
.
.
* Richard pauses to photograph
.
.
This tree stump covered in fungus
.
.
We continue to Selsley Common
.
.

Where we walk round the Common looking down to Stonehouse
.
.
And over Doverow Hill with May Hill on the horizon
.
.
* A pause at the highest point
.
.
The Toots
.
.
To watch someone who has solved the problem of airlines going bust
.
.
Before heading back to the cars.
.
.
.
Photos and captions from Richard and * Mike.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
