Stroud - Randwick - Stroudwater Canal

Wed 10 September 2008

.
Meeting by the new Stroud College Steve, one of our new leaders, outlines his route up to Randwick and back via the Cotswold Way and Canal
.
.
A few clouds scud across the sky as we set off uphill
..
.
And down again
.
.
Others are exercising too
.
.
Behind us another angle on Selsley Common
..
.
Has no-one got any sugar?
.
.
Steve tells us about the newly renovated Randwick Village Hall, which generates and saves energy in many ways
.
.
Gough contemplates one of the Five Valleys
.
.
Here's another one
.
.
Steve strides along the Cotswold Way
.
.
Past the isolated Randwick Ash, visible up on the horizon from many different angles
.
.
We turn down hill
.
.
Still on the Cotswold Way
.
.
And over the railway
.
.
To continue back along the canal under Oilmills Bridge, a pleasing blend of old foundations and new deck
.
.
Another blend of old and new
.
.
Then a wildlife haven
.
.
Before turning up hill
.
.
To cross the newly named Jack Russell Way (Jack, the former English wicket keeper comes from Stroud)
.
.
And back to the Stratford Park Leisure Centre car park
.

.
Photos and captions from Mike.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
