Well, would you look happy faced with a 10 mile walk in pouring rain?
.
.
Undaunted Mike leads us off
.
.
Soon taking to a forest track
.
.
Then past some very old beech trees
.
.
Now what exactly are those stones doing there?
.
.
Our path takes us down into Mitcheldean (with May Hill in the distance)
.
.
Unusual weather vane. Owner used to own Cottrells coach company according to Heather
.
.
Part of old Mitcheldean
.
.
Uphill now
.
.
With a pause at the top on the ridge
.
.
Before we head back down the other side
.
.
Stopping of course to hug a tree. Where are the men in white coats with straight jackets? (Size 5 and a half)
.
.
We continue downhill with May Hill on the horizon
.
.
Crossing the A40 where Mike dons a fluorescent jacket
.
.
A rest on our way to the top of May Hill where we stop for lunch
.
.
After lunch only one way to go and that's down - a vague view of the Horseshoe bends in the distance
.
.
Might do for dinner. Keith has already collected a few
.
.
Crossing a bit of open access land
.
.
Then we leave the Wysis Way
.

.
Making our way into the little walked valley
.
.
Where an encounter with a farmer puts us on the right path through this gate - a waymark would be useful
.
.
To Hobbs Quarry
.
.
We walk along the edge
.
.
And then continue down the hill
.
.

Towards Longhope - now experiencing a short dry spell
.
.
Where we contemplate the practicalities of getting this back on the road
.
.
Or making a phone call - the sign says "Conforming. Passed Inspection. Ready for use"!
.
.
Another steep climb - the third out of four - May Hill receding now
.
.
Then over Pool Hill to another valley where we see the Wilderness across the othe side. The returning rain speeds us back to the cars
.
.
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds and beyond. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
