Doynton and Dyrham

Sat 23 August 2008

.
A millennium memorial comemorates the founding of the village of Doynton
.
.
Where we start our walk at the Cross House Inn
.
.
Heading out through ripening maize
.
.
And across fields
.
.
Towards Dyrham Park and its famous old mansion
..
.
We then follow part of the Cotswold Way up the hill
.
.
And through fields of wheat
.
.
Towards Hinton Hill
.
.
Where Jacqui, our leader, tells us something of the battle which took place here in days gone by
.
.
Across the valley in Dyrham Park is the herd of deer
.
.
While the spot chosen for coffee gives us views over the Severn Vale
.
.
A little road walking takes us back down the hill
.
.
Our route takes us over stiles
.
.
And across bridges
.
.
Until Doynton Church appears in front of us
.
.
And we walk through the village to the pub for lunch
.
.

.
Photos and captions thanks again to Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
