Tunnel House and Tarlton

Sat 19 July 2008

.
John addresses the asembled ramblers in the car park
.
.
Of the Tunnel House Inn
.
.
Before we set off along the canal path, looking back at the mouth of the old tunnel
.
.
Then passing under a road bridge
..
.
Another familiar sight on the old Thames/Severn Canal
.
.
And an example of Brunel's engineering skills with a railway bridge built on an angle
.
.
We stop at the source of the Thames - seems like only a week ago we were last here
.
.
And then head off across the fields
.
.
Mr Bull seems to be getting a bit amorous with one of the cows
.
.
Should have learned his lesson by now!
.
.
Time for coffee
.
.
After which John dons a reflective jacket ready for a long road walk
.
.
Which includes the re-crossing of the busy Tetbury - Cirencester road
.
.
And an enforced walk along a country lane - brought about because the Monarch's Way is impassable
.
.
We reach Tarlton
.
.
Where we look across the fields
.
.
Hoping to catch sight of the Tunnel House - its there hidden in the trees with Coates Church behind it
.
.
And Allen points the way so that we can get back to what turns out to be an enjoyable lunch
.
.

.
Photos and captions kindly taken by Richard once again.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
