Arlingham peninsula

Wed 11 June 2008

.
Allen starts us off at a gentle pace to warm up. We head out of Arlingham
.
.
Through a new kissing gate
.
.
Past this huge item
.
.
One of the giant power pylons on the banks of the Severn
..
.
And head eastwards down river
.
.
We aim to climb the only hill round about - Barrow Hill
.
.
Through another new kissing gate
.
.
Come on, you lot
.
.
We head inland, where things are not so good
.
.
We divert round the edge of the adjacent field
.
.
Alan has discovered an endangered species - a stile
.
.
We continue across the fields
.
.
Turning right through yet another kissing gate up Barrow Hill, all 200 feet of it!
.
.
Where we obtain surprisingly good views to Gloucester, the Forest of Dean, and here towards Slimbridge and Stinchcombe Hill
.
.
Some of us pose for a Group shot
.
.
What have they found?
.
.
It's Springtime and we see a variety
.
.
Of feathered friends
.
.

And a proud Dad
.
.
At Wick Court. where there is a City Childrens Farm Project. (Did you know Queen Elizabeth I slept here?)
.
.
We head westwards along the other side of the peninsula, and have views of May Hill and Westbury Garden Cliff
.
.
.
 .
.
What an excellent example the Parish Council have set to other parishes in the district. No chance of getting lost here!
.
.
We repair to the Village Inn, where many of us stop for lunch.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
