Stow and the Slaughters

Sat 7 June 2008

.
After leaving the Tesco car park we head through the centre of Stow
.
.
* Including this narrowest of alleys
.
.
* Graham knows where he is going
.
.
Our path now taking us through a peaceful cemetery
..
.
Then down the hill
.
.
An American flag! Have we come too far?
.
.
* It's a warm day
.
.
Graham, our leader, lets us pause at this old mill, before we head off across the fields
.
.
Mike looking suspiciously at a muddy patch. The more cautious finding a way round
.
.
Buttercups still going strong
.
.
As we head along the river
.
.
Into Upper Slaughter
.
.
Pausing at the church
.
.
Before climbing the hill out of the village
.
.
We look down over the Windrush valley
.
.
Glad there is a strong gate between me and him
.
.
* Later we read about Englsh Longhorns and discover they are very gentle! Read for yourself
.
.
We stop at a ford
.
.

Before continuing down the Windrush valley
.
.
Along wooded paths
.
.
{short description of image}
And past these pretty cottages
.
.
* And a magnificent farmhouse
.
.
* A fiited carpet? Must be a party tonight
.
.
We follow our leader
.
.
To Bourton on the Water
.
.
We meet on the green after lunch
.
.
And make our way to Lower Slaughter
.
.
With its mill
.
.
And an old drinking friend
.
.
We leave the village past the church
.
.
Our visiting Aussie showing us how they do it down under
.
.
A swan comes over to say hello
.
.
As we retrace our steps to Stow past this large house
.
.
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
