Dursley's northern delights

Wed 21 May 2008

We are very grateful to Ray for leading this walk and helping another member
.
* We meet up in Dursley
.
.
A good impression of a gorilla in pain from our stand in leader, Ray, as he prepares to lead us up Cam Peak
.
.
We head off across the fields towards our goal
.
.
Then start to climb
..
.
That is apart from Bernard who pauses to replace a waymark - mind your thumb!
.
.
From the top we have views over Dursley
.
.
As we stop to catch our breath
.
.
Before we head off up and along Cam Long Down
.
.
Pausing at the top for discussion on the relative heights of the Peak and Down
.
.
* Some of us look at the views
.
.
Then its down the other side
.
.
* Into the valley
.
.
Right down
.
.
Before following the Cotswold Way up to Uley Bury
.
.
Stopping at the top for coffee
.
.
We have views over Smallpox Hill
.
.
* Or its official name, Downham Hill (open access)
.
.
And a view down into Uley village
.
.

As we make our way round Uley Bury
.
.
And head down into the valley
.
.
Crossing the road
.
.
By Uley Church
.
.
* And the pub we did not visit
.
.
As we leave Uley this tree catches our eye - shouldn't it be dead?
.
.
Our path takes us through fields of buttercups
.
.
* And yet more buttercups
.
.
And along quiet country lanes as we head back
.
.
An Alpine meadow? Practising for Maria?
.
.
We arrive back in Dursley after a strenuous but enjoyable walk
.
.
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
