Eric's walk from Brimscombe by Brian

29 March 2008

All members who met Eric Seymour were very sad when he died late last year, having made the grand old age of 94.
.
Brian, our chairman, today leads Eric's favourite walk in his memory.
.
We gather in the layby at the Pavillion, Brimscombe, anxiously looking for signs of rain
.
.
Brian halts the traffic so that we can cross the Toadsmoor Road - at least he stops one car
.
.
We walk along the side of the Toadsmoor Valley
.
.
Past the lower lake
..
.
And along a muddy woodland path
.
.
Further up the valley we cross the stream
.
.
And walk round the bottom of the lake
.
.
Stopping for coffee on its banks
.
.
Before continuing along the lakeside path
.
.
Where we spot these flowers - can't remember what they are called
.
.
Now climbing up the valley
.
.
Pausing to catch our breath as we enter Eastcombe
.
.
Before moving on to Bussage
.
.
Then through Frith Wood
.
.
The promised rain now starting as we cross the playing field
.
.
And through the allotments to Brownshill
.
.
Then it's down the Station Banks
.
.
Back to the cars
.
If you would like to do Eric Seymour's delightful walk on a drier day, you might care to buy our Book One of Favourite Walks. Eric's walk is number eight (see some sunny pictures). The book is on sale in Stroud Bookshop in the High Street, R&R Books in Nelson Street, Stroud, North Woodchester Post Office and Nonsuch Books in Market Street, Nailsworth, as well as many other local outlets.
.
Pictures here of Eric leading on his 90th birthday!

Photos and captions thanks to Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
