southcotswoldramblers.org.uk Cowcombe Hill to Brownshill 26 March 2008 A moderate (to hilly) 6 (to 7) mile walk led by Richard and Diana . |
| The
start of our walk takes us from the layby on Cowcombe Hill across the
A419 . . |
| Through
fields along the top of the hill . . |
| And
down through the woods . . |
| Where
the paths still show signs of recent heavy rain .. . |
| We
stop to look at the graves of two racehorses . . |
| Then
climb down over this rather tricky stile . . |
| Here
the footpath is blocked by a fallen tree but fortunately there is a way
round . . |
| At
the bottom of the hill we come to St Mary's Mill . . |
| We
then have a short walk along the canal . . |
| Before
we climb the banks towards Brownshill . . |
| Stopping
for coffee halfway up with views across the valley . . |
| Our
route now takes us across the top of the hill through the Manor Estate . . |
| Meant
for dogs but the thought of a hydrobath appeals to some . . |
| Past
the pretty cottages of France Lynch . . |
| Then
down the valley in the late morning sun . . |
| Over
the recently renovated stile . . |
| A
reminder of the Easter story as Jim cleans Caroline's boots with a
handily placed brush - not a good precedent to set! . . |
| We
cross the canal at Valley Corner . . |
| Then
climb the hill back to the cars . . |
| . | |||
| Photos
and captions thanks to Richard. . |

| As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association. | |||
