Slimbridge in early spring

13 March 2008

.
Our starting point. And hopefully only a temporary finishing point to our circular walk.
.
.
We head out past Slimbridge Church and Vicarage
.
.
Ann stopping to tell us about Rosie's Wood
.
.
Founded in memory of a local ballet teacher and choreographer
.
.
She then leads us across the River Cam
.
.
Before we climb our token hill, with Slimbridge Church behind us
.
.
Stopping for coffee and for Ann to take our lunch orders
.
.
We continue through Newbrow Hill Oak Wood now with Frampton Church in our sights
.
.
Stopping at the information board
.
.
Before crossing the canal at Splatt Bridge - after it had been opened for us
.
.
We look across the Severn
.
.
As we walk along the canal bank stopping to look at the wayside flowers
.
.
Another view of flooded meadows through the hedgerows before we cross the canal
.
.
And head into Frampton past this Tudor Barn
.
.
And a black headed gull
.
.
Arriving at the Bell
.
.
For lunch
.
.
Then it's back along the green past this splendid house making our way between the canal and river
.
.
Looking across at the Wildfowl Trust
.
.

Before we head back inland
.
.
Stopping to admire some colourful willow trees
.
.
John removes some dangerous barbed wire
.
.
And these mothers lead their offspring out of harm's way
.
.
Before we walk back through the churchyard to the cars.
.
Photos and captions thanks to Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
