Wickwar wander

20 February 2008

.
John (in red) greets us at the start of our walk in the car park of the Buthay Inn
.
.
And we walk past it looking forward to lunch
.
.
We head across the fields to the 700 year old church
.
.
Pausing for a look inside
.
.
We spot this chap in front of us and John elects to take an alternative route
.
.
We continue to circle Wickwar
.
.
Coming to a secluded pond
.
.
We walk through a farm past a pile of Mangel-Wurzels. Learn more
.
.
Then a quick history lesson from John
.
.
As he points out an air shaft to a railway line. We hear several trains go by underground
.
.
Then its playtime!
.
.
Our route takes us back through Wickwar
.
.
Then over a Roman bridge
.
.
Encountering some sticky going
.
.
Before we head into a nature reserve
.
.
Then over a series of stiles
.
.
Back to Wickwar
.
.

.
Photos and captions thanks to Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
