Hill and Ham winter warmer

2 February 2008

Not a bad day after all the dire weather predictions. Joe managed to attract 17 walkers including 2 from Poland, 2 from North Yorks and 1 from Wiltshire
.
Joe prepares us for the rigours of the coming walk
.
And we head off towards the Severn, pausing when we reach the banks
.
Then we walk along the Severn Way
.
Another stop where a small stream enters the river
.
Not a lot of water in it at the moment
.
Fishermen? Hope they know the tide is coming in!
.
Group photograph
.
Another handy spot to view the river, chat and take photographs
.
Our team of back markers ensure all is well
.
As we continue along the river with Berkeley Power Station and Sharpness Docks in the distance
.
Geese in flight - could someone direct them to Slimbridge?
.
We leave the river and pause at the entrance to the Power Station
.
The old Berkeley Castle Mill - powered by tidal water
.
We look across to Berkeley and the castle
.
After lunch we head up to the Deer Park
.
Posing for one for the family album
.
Then heading along the top of the hill
.
Eventually seeing deer
.
Thought the foot and mouth scare was over. Still Ron shows how it is done
.
We now pass the spookey house on the hill before heading back to the cars
.

Pausing to perform one last humanitarian act by freeing a sheep hopelessly caught up in a hedge
.
Once free there is no time for gratitude as it shoots off to find its mates
.
Photos and captions thanks to Richard.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
