Frampton-on-Severn New Year walk

1 January 2008
. .
Our walk starts at Splatt Bridge where Joe gives the usual introduction
.
We cross over the canal and walk along the towpath
..
Eventually recrossing
.
And heading along the road
. .
Joe draws our attention to the oldest house in the area which was built around a hip frame
.
And we head off
.
Along the river Cam
.
Better take the right path
.
Seen on the side of a building - apparently for bats
.
The wooden structures on the far bank are for disabled anglers
.
We cross a stream
.
And make our way through a new plantation of trees near Nebrow Hill
.
Arriving back at our starting point where some of our number leave
.
We walk into Frampton Park stopping to say hello to these two
.
And watching the boats racing on the lake
.
We stop for lunch by one of the lakes where a cormorant is putting on a display
.
The swans not to be outdone - bottoms up
.
But we are too busy talking
.
With the manor house in the background
.
Refreshed we continue on our way
.

Passing by Whitminster Church
.
Where Joe gives us some of the history
.
Then it's back to the canal - wonder what they had in mind when they named this boat
.
This looks like hard work
.
We stop at the Cotswold Canals shop
.
Guard cat!
.
Then continue along the canal - now that's a name I can equate with
.
Approaching the old Fry's chocolate factory
.
A bit of land flooded by the Severn
.
Frampton church comes into view
.
And we re-cross Splatt Bridge to end our first walk of 2008
.
See Mike's pictures of Joe's walk last year, also on the 1st of January
.
Photos and captions from Richard, off to a good start in the New Year
.
top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
