Cotswold Way circular near Stroud

29 December 2007
. .
A turnout of 29 for a post Christmas circular walk entirely on the Cotswold Way, assembling at Ryeford.
.
We stop to consolidate near Stanley Mill
..
Mike leads the way up a sticky field on a very bright winter's morning
.
We are aiming for the top of Selsley Common
. .
Continuing up from Middleyard
.
We look back over the settlement and spot the tower of Selsley Church to the right
.
After a drink stop in the quarry
.
We cross the open common which forms part of an alternative Cotswold Way option to Ryeford
.
And pause to admire views over the vale
.
And over Selsley Church and Ebley
.
After heavy overnight storms, we are so lucky to have a dry morning, although someone is catching a brief scud judging by the rainbow
.
We pass Selsley Church
.
And continue downhill
.
Towards Ebley Mill
.
We then follow a newly restored section of the Stroudwater Canal
.
Passing the former Children's Home at Ebley
.
As the next section of the towpath is temporarily closed for the building of a new Oil Mils Bridge we cross over the Frome to return along the cycle track to Ryeford
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
