Painswick Beacon stroll

12 December 2007
. .
Mike impresses with an ariel photo of our proposed route near the Beacon (see later on to be impressed too)
.
And proceeds to demonstrate a viewing platform for golfers to spot walkers - installed after Tony Drake expressed his concern at how dangerous the golf course was because of blind spots
..
Our route takes us up a slippery path
.
Then along the edge of some old quarry workings
.
Past the old Catbrain Quarry
.
Then following the Cotswold Way along the side of the Beacon
.
We stop to examine some old logs in a dip by the side of the path - puzzling?
.
Then head back on the North side of the beacon - keeping an eye open for stray golf balls as we spot golfers on th horizon
.
Reaching the top of the Beacon we look down on Gloucester
.
With views over the Severn
.
And out to the Malverns
.
A view worth pondering
.
The ramparts around the edge of the Beacon are just below us. Now be impressed by the aerial picture of Painswick Beacon
.
We find a sheltered spot for elevenses
.
We walk down the side of the hill
.

Then head back along the Cotswold Way
.
Coming out into the sunshine as we approach the cars
.
Looking back across the Painswick Valley
.

top As you can see, we thoroughly enjoy getting to know the South Cotswolds. We try to keep fit and succeed in having a good old chat. If you are interested in coming with us, see our walks programme and ring the leader if you have any questions about a particular walk. After two or three walks we hope you will then want to join the group as part of the national Ramblers' Association.
